The Empyrean is about your soul, and receiving God’s Light into your Soul.
The new guide after Beatrice finds her place in the matured part of the Rose, is the faculty of Loving God, as in “St. Bernard”. He shows you the inner structure and architecture of the soul, as preparation for further receiving of the Light.
Two elements are necessary for the final union:
Love of God (St. Bernard)
Receiving God’s Light (Mary)
This will create the relationship and the final communion with God, internally.
